Project Statement
Women breaking out of the cinematic frame. Embracing traditionally feminine
elements (pink, flowers, hearts, cutesy), as Margot Robbie does in many of her films,
allows these elements to become symbols of identity and power. This project consists of Margot Robbie’s silhouette stepping out of the frame into her own space. The outside of the frame has very vibrant colors, movement, and life, while the inside of the frame is muted. This project symbolizes moving beyond the confined strains of traditional representation/stereotypes. The feminine gaze allows women to be whoever they want to be, whether that’s super feminine or any other aesthetic.

Self-Reflection
The collaboration on this project involved a great deal of communication, both through Canvas and WhatsApp. I really enjoyed speaking with my group members. Although we each come from different backgrounds and cultures, it was interesting to see how we shared similar views on topics such as the feminine gaze.
It was an honor to have this kind of opportunity, and I look forward to participating in similar collaborative projects in the future.
